10 Communication terms

This glossary can help you prepare for the IELTS writing tasks related to Communication Technology.

detach: verb; Disengage (something or part of something) and remove it.; Example: Technology can also mean people are detached from what is going on around them even when they are out.
development: noun; The process of developing or being developed.; Example: Technology has brought some positive development in the ways people interact with each other.
interaction: Communication or direct involvement with someone or something.; Example: However, despite these advances, the quality of interaction has significantly declined in several respects.
perspective: noun; A particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view.; Example: Based on this perspective, technology has influenced relationships in a positive way.
relationship: noun; The way in which two or more people or things are connected, or the state of being connected.; Example: The principal way in which relationships have been affected is that they tend to be at a distance rather than face-to-face.
revolutionize: verb; Change (something) radically or fundamentally.; Example: The social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have revolutionized relationships.
significantly: adverb; In a sufficiently great or important way as to be worthy of attention.; Example: However, despite these advances, the quality of interaction has significantly declined in several respects.
technology: noun; The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.; Example: However, there are also some negative impacts of technology on the types of relationships people make.
transform: verb; Make a marked change in the form, nature, or appearance of.; Example: It is evident that technology has transformed the ways of communication and influenced relationships in a variety of ways.
variety: noun; The quality or state of being different or diverse; the absence of uniformity or monotony.; Example: It is evident that technology has transformed the ways of communication and influenced relationships in a variety of ways.
